David Rankin was my most recorded artist. He used great musicians, paid them well, and encouraged each to perform their parts to the best of their ability. Altogether, I recorded about 3 dozen songs for Dave in 6 different studios. Each of the players became a good friend to me. John Cross and I had been in High School together at Redwood Hi in Larkspur. Julie became my Secretary at TVS San Rafael, Teddy my co-producer in my post TVS life. Mark had been in a great band called Secrets, and is now with Bob Weir and Rat Dog. John Condon was a superb drummer with a great kit (Ed Michaels also played many session dates and was a rock). Michael White originally played Bass, but was called away by the New Riders of the Purple Sage to tour. David Nowlin filled in after Michaels departure. Bill Schlais brought to every session. Great energy, Great player.
